Recent Encounters 2023
In this series, I explore spaces of real and imagined worlds that reflect the challenges and conflicts we face when questioning knowledge, personal beliefs and the unknown.
The components of this work, made at different times, both realistic and abstracted, are based upon fragmented encounters, what I know and what is familiar. I continue to paint, print, and assemble images that are meaningful to me from nature, religion, science and technology, amusement parks, a cast of characters, personal possessions and other sources. Some of these things include tree stumps, Ferris wheels, TV remotes, projectors, and broken halos. I am attracted to elusive connections, unlikely combinations and the unexplainable. Many of my works include a stylized head form, the observer, that represents for me an essential awareness and perception itself.
My invented narratives grapple with the possibilities of my own unsettled vision in an attempt to uncover new meaning.
