Where I Am
Where I Am
This work was produced during the months of April and May 2020, a difficult and chaotic time filled with fear and uncertainty. The pandemic was in full force in Brockton, Massachusetts, necessitating a stay-at-home order and a local curfew. With high unemployment and the economy in shambles, citizens continue to be polarized and institutions are in crisis.
Working in my home studio there was an urgency to make something, to move beyond a passive state of news media consumption and to get something done. I approached the work intuitively with a desire to have unexpected results. With an emphasis on production, each of the painted and photographic collage components were made individually and at different times and then assembled together. Each of the components has a particular meaning for me.
This work became a personal snapshot with connections to this period of time, a construct of unsettled thoughts and conflicting elements.
